Getting your security license in BC requires three steps. The first step is to pass your Basic Security Training (BST). You can do this in person at Hero Security or online through the Justice Institute of British Columbia’s website. Our training programs are comprehensive and designed to give our guards the knowledge and skills they need to tackle any security job with confidence.
After successfully obtaining your BST certificate, the next step is to visit your local RCMP office for a criminal record check. You will need to provide fingerprints, passport-sized photos, and two pieces of photo ID to complete the process. A clean criminal record is essential to ensure the safety of our clients, and we take this step seriously.
Finally, you must apply for your security license through the Ministry of Justice, Security Licensing division. The process can take several weeks, or even up to two months, depending on backlogs at the ministry. Despite the potential wait times, we always encourage our applicants to start the process as early as possible.
